Hi everyone!
88/100! Only 12 to go, but only 4 made last month.
I'm a bit behind schedule, but it was for a good cause: I've been working on a creature concept for a film :)
It went really well, and was very interesting. It got me out of my comfort zone a bit, as the subject was complex to put into images. But the director, the producers and the team are all happy, so I thank them for this opportunity :) I can't wait to be able to show it off.
Back to the book now.
I often wonder what number 100 will be like: does it have to be special? It probably does. But I haven't come up with the right idea yet.
I know I'll do a ball of flesh, a big sphere of intertwined bodies, with a few chains. Maybe that'll be the 100. I think I'll just try and come up with some good concepts and maybe take the one I like best to be number 100.
This is number 85, the Courtesan.
She completes number 51, the Aristocrat.
And for the curious, here's what it looks like before the final image:
1/ I sculpt the model in ZBrush. For this model I made a lot of use of dynamics for the dress and the clusters of flesh.
2 / I run my model through Keyshot. In a scene prepared for the series. There, I apply my custom materials, for the skin, the metals, and so on. I do several renders with different skins, blood, etc. I always have a smoke background, which is made up of a .vdb file.
3 / I assemble my renderings in Photoshop, and use a few actions prepared for the series, to ensure consistent rendering and colourimetry.
I'm going to take a week's holiday - it's been over a year since I've really had one, so it'll do me good.
Between the series that needs to move forward, the rare opportunities for 3D missions for which I give my all, and the daily work and personal 3D creations outside the series, I'm not taking too much time to really breathe.
The further I get into the series, the more a little anxiety starts to creep in. I just need to rest a bit and concentrate. Finish the work first, then I'll have time to get scared when it's all over. Proof that I need a little rest… I'm writing all this here :D
Take care of yourself,
Franck

Great read! It amazes me how quickly you're able to make these really detailed images.
